It is quite normal to experience a flood of emotions when your parent is ill; perhaps you and your parent have been having some difficulties in getting along, you may have had a heated argument or two, and now that your parent is ill, you may somehow feel that it is your fault. During these situations, it is common for teenagers to be depressed, and adding to the stress is when the youths take on additional responsibilities, especially the girls; but even though when the situation seem like will not get any better, you can still cope by sharing your anxieties and fears with your parents. Although your parents may find it difficult to talk about such things, they will do their best to show that they are supportive is you respectfully ask them to help you; make a goal of telling your parents how much you love them and share your thoughts positively. If possible, educate yourself regarding the illness of your parents and perhaps your family doctor can assist you in this regard; being well informed will help you to be more empathetic, patient, and understanding, and it can help prepare you for any physical changes your parent may suffer, such as scars, hair loss, or fatigue. If your parent is recuperating at home, then do what you can to assist with his or her care and volunteer to take on a reasonable share of the household chores; of course, you still have schoolwork, try to set aside time for it, as your education is still important. If possible, leave some time for rest and recreation, such as going to beaches like st john resorts because this will refresh you and help you to be of better support to your parent; finally, avoid isolating yourself.
