I live in a city that celebrates every year the fiest of its patron saint, which falls on every third Sunday of January, this is a Spanish tradition which was passed on and embraced by the Filipinos. The main streets are closed to cars and the whole city is shut down, because it is used for the street dancing and parade, the streets are decorated with flaglets and people come out to party in the streets. It is more or like the same as in Brazil where they have their mardi gras, face painting, body painting and henna tattooing are just a few of the activities that happen during the day. The street dancing is a contest with large amount of prizes, a lot of towns from all over the country join, not only because of the large prize money, but also for the prestige of getting the title. Photographers from all over the city awaits this time of the year and this photo contest because not only they are going to get a large amount of money if they win, but it is also the best time to show off their skills. All photos will be from the festival, and will need to fit the criteria’s in the category that they registered at, there are a lot of categories for the photo contest, to give chance to a lot of photographers to win. As long as you have a camera and pay the small amount of registration fee, everyone is welcome to join. There are a lot of amateur photographers that join the contest, together with the professionals, and it is not always the pro’s that bag the prizes, once in a while an amateur hits the right lighting and angle and win’s the contest. All of these are organized by the city government.
