My mother and father died one after another in less than a year

My mother and father died one after another in less than a year; it all happened so unexpectedly, my siblings and I were left for fend for ourselves financially. Although we were not rich, our basic needs were always met; our parents, whom we thought would be around longer, had pampered us. Adjusting and making ends meet after suddenly being cut off from their support has been a difficult struggle for us and we tried to cut down on expenses by growing our own vegetable garden in our backyard. Initially, nothing grew until we added some organic fertilizer and that is when we successfully grew eggplants, tomatoes, chili, and other vegetables. House upkeep is expensive with expenses for electricity, water, cable, internet, salary for our maids, food, and gasoline for the car, which is why my siblings and I made the decision to divide it into evenly four. To save on taxi fare, I would hitch a ride with my office and leave the house earlier to be able to catch her; if I’m lucky, I could also go with my aunt who has the same shift with me. On our own, trying to cope with grief and our dwindling finances was difficult; what made it even worse were the power struggles between siblings, which had become more and more constant ever our mother was no longer around to mediate. Although life now is far from ideal, I still believe that my siblings and I are blessed to have parents who taught us to stand on our own while others lost their parents without even knowing them.
